以前にもここのブログに書いたアンティークリングの

サイズ直しをしました。

アンティークのリング、特にこのような後ろまでぐるりと

美しいエングレイビングが施してあるリングはサイズが

ぴったりなシンデレラサイズであれば完璧ですが、いつも

お気に入りのリングに自分の指がぴったりとは限りません。

今回のこの写真のリングは、購入時の最初は小指用？と思う

ほどの小さな小さなリングでした。

今回サイズを大きくするにあたってエングレイビングの入った

部分の3分の1ほどは新しく作り直してレーザーで繋ぎ、新しく

作った部分にあったはずの模様を手彫りで再現します。

何枚も違う角度から写真を撮ってほとんど美術品の修復作業の

ように慎重にサイズ直しをしました。

一ヶ月ちょっとかかった作業でしたが、こんなに綺麗な出来て

恐らく本当に特別な物を除けばどんなアンティークのサイズ直しも

可能だな！と自信のついた作業でした。

Antique Repair
As I wrote about in a previous blog, I recently performed an antique ring resizing.

Some antique rings have beautiful engravings that run all the way around, and although it would be great if the ring was a Cinderella like match, the ring you prefer will not always be a perfect fit. At the time of purchase, the ring shown in this picture was so small it could have been mistaken for a pinky ring.

The task at hand was to enlarge the ring, so I recreated about a third of the engraved area. First I hand carved the previous pattern into the new portion, then laser soldered the new area to the original piece. I took photos from every possible angle, and did the resizing with all the intensity of an art masterpiece restoration.

It took me a little over a month, but the end result turned out so well that I must say I gained confidence in my own abilities and realized, except for some extremely special pieces, I could perform almost any antique resizing!
